On our last full day of our north-east America trip, we once more had the chance to meet a local artist and get to know New York City from a different, non-tourist, side.
We took the subway along the west side of the Central Park to get to a small restaurant right at the main street (Frederick Douglass Blvd) of Harlem, the Harlem Burger Co.. We met at this specific place as todays artist, Rammer, had the amazing opportunity to fully design the interior of the restaurant. And yes, Rammer is his actual name, built from the two names of his parents, Ramón and Mercedes.
What we first planned to be for 3-4 hours actually lasted about 11-12 hours. Thanks to Rammer and the Harlem Burger crew we were able to stay there for such a long time and even started doing collaborations (including coloring an umbrella) on the sidewalk right in front of the restaurant, having great food and drinks (they have a soda machine with 63 different sodas!) and getting in touch with many locals as well as getting to know the “normal side” of Manhattan.
