After a day of skipping every possible line on our tour to some of the most visited places in Manhattan, we decided to make the opposite by walking along the High Line. Located in Lower West Side, the High Line is a magnet for tourists as well as locals. First used by the New York Central Railroad to connect the south west of Manhattan with the Penn Station, the elevated track was remodeled to a park in 2006. The 2.3 km long walkway starts 2 streets to the south a of 13th street and leads linearly through buildings and along the 10th avenue to the 34th street next to Penn Station. Along the park, over 200 different plant species deliver a relaxing atmosphere and many small bars and restaurants invite the pedestrians to have a quick break. Furthermore, the park also contains many pieces of modern or abstract art while the old rails are still guiding along the path. As it was not too sunny, we were able to visit the High Line in the afternoon, however, during sunshine the walk can be very exhausting and rather stressful due to the over 5 million visitors every year.

After the long but beautiful walk, we took the subway to Soho, where we find a great little restaurant with once more very interesting food combinations: Jack’s Wife Freda. We even ended up buying their cookbook before heading back to our hotel for the last time, as we were moving to a new one near Central Park on the next day.
