Kuta – Yogyakarta

Our trip to Yogyakarta (also just called Jogja) was the most exhausting one so far. It was delayed for 1.5 hours without any information and the actual flight took much longer than first planned. After we finally arrived at the airport it was in a worse condition than all we have seen so far and even less cleaned than the ones we were used to from Ende at the end of the world. And this although Jogja is actually quite famous due its location very close to two large temple complexes. And although we gave our best to find a fair taxi driver we ended up with a way too expensive one. The city itself is clean but the people are all in all not as friendly as the ones we met during the last weeks.

As it can be easily seen from the pictures, it is very rustically built out of metal, concrete and wood but with a lot of love for details, art and especially plants. Already the entrance of the hotel is fully covered in green hanging plants so you have to bend down a little bit when entering. And right behind there are already some first statues awaiting your arrival.20160805-DSC0120020160805-DSC01213But there are more highlights in this mainly cheerless area. Through Tripadvisor we found out that some of the best rated restaurants are very close to us. So we decided to get some European food and went to Mediterranea Restaurant. The design of the restaurant, as of our hotel, was very thought-out. It was a very welcoming atmosphere with a well trained service. If such a restaurant would be open in Zurich it is almost guaranteed that you have to reserve your table at least a week ahead. In our case we were a little bit lucky that we did not arrive too late, all except two tables were already booked. So we completed our day with some very good pizza out of a wood stove and a glass of local red wine.
